About us

In Camden we are committed to working together to make our borough the best place to live, work, study, and visit. Partnership with our communities is central to the way we work, so that everyone can access opportunities, and nobody gets left behind. Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all.

Human-induced climate change is seeing extreme weather events affect many parts of the world. Camden is not immune, experiencing significant flooding in the summer of 2021 and heat waves in 2014. Therefore, we are looking for someone to help identify current and future climate risks to Camden and improve the borough’s resilience to them.

The role

In this role you will build Camden’s resilience to a changing climate, by identifying, designing and delivering projects that reduce flood risk and protect communities against the risk of overheating.

In consultation with Public Health colleagues, you will identify the communities most at risk from climate change and ensure projects support them. Working with relevant stakeholders you will draft, publish and implement a Climate Adaptation and Resilience Strategy for Camden ensuring Camden’s citizens’ most at risk are at the heart of the work. You will also help our communities to understand their vulnerability to future climate risks and to build their capacity to adapt.

This role is responsible for implementing Camden’s new Flood Risk Management Strategy, using flood risk modelling and sustainable drainage opportunity mapping, to identify flood risk alleviation projects and funding, and to work with teams across the Council to deliver them.

A key objective will be to help embed climate resilience into the Council’s wider operations by providing practical and feasible adaptation and resilience solutions.

About you

We are looking for someone who has a good understanding of the role that planning and governance play in increasing resilience, climate risk, and urban resilience.

The successful candidate will need to have a relevant qualification or equivalent experience in this field of work. You will have experience in managing and delivering climate resilience projects and working with climate projection data.

You will have knowledge of sustainable drainage infrastructure and flood risk, climate risk assessment, nature-based solutions and climate adaption.

In this role you will need to have attention to detail and the ability to manage conflicting priorities.

Working for Camden

We’re ready to welcome your ideas, your views, and your rebellious spirit. Help us redefine how we’re supporting our communities, and we’ll redefine what a career can be. If that sounds good to you, we’d love to talk.

At Camden, you’ll receive a host of benefits as well as joining a flexible working employer.
