NEXT’s remit is to explore and grow disruptive new propositions in everyday healthcare.  We work agnostic of our current brands, product formats or business models to create new, high-value commercial opportunities by enabling better ways for people to prevent and manage ill-health.

The Head of R&D Next has a broad and impactful leadership remit of the R&D Disruptive innovation, Digital, Device, and platform service offerings. It includes cross-functional oversight to Medical, Regulatory, Engineering, Portfolio and Platform Leadership. The NEXT R&D Head is the single point of decision making from an R&D functional perspective and works as a partner to the commercial Head of NEXT. The role will lead a team to assess needs and work across the Global R&D organization as well as external partners to secure the appropriate capabilities and resource to progress the Next portfolio.

As such, it will be important for this leader to have an understanding of such digital, device and targeted new platforms with the ability to determine a pathway for the associated technical, medical and regulatory requirements and BOH compliance requirements through a cross-functional team. It also has matrixed leadership connections with Data and Analytics.

The Head of R&D NEXT will forge a strong partnership with the commercial Head of NEXT in order to progress the disruptive innovation portfolio and will have leadership accountability to:

  • Lead and develop the R&D Next strategy and execution to enable the commercial Next strategy.
  • Develop, access and coordinate external industry leading capabilities for disruptive innovation, digital, devices with a focus on new platform service offerings including Wellness.
  • Develop an external network of strategic partners, experts and critically assess opportunities for feasibility and scale.
  • Lead the cross-functional Next R&D team responsible for new methodologies for the agile development and testing of product protypes and concepts leveraging external partners and internal capabilities in accordance with the disruptive innovation, device, diagnostics and platform service portfolio.
  • Ensure an advanced and forward view of the landscape, as well as proactive horizon scanning & action planning to be on the leading edge of disruptive innovation, devices, digital and platform service offerings.
  • Lead a team which can identify and execute a pathway for successful launch of non-product service-related solutions, where applicable, in partnership with the NEXT commercial Head.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BA or BS in a Science, Engineering or Healthcare related field
  • Highly skilled in strategy, technical and scientific interpretation/evaluation/communication of data and technical information
  • Significant experience in a scientific and/or people leadership role
  • Strong understanding of technical, medical, and regulatory complexity particularly as applied to Digital and Devices
  • Ability to set R&D strategy and execution plans across a cross-functional team.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Resilient, collaborative and data driven
  • Masters or doctorate in Engineering, Design or Healthcare related field
  • Courage and bravery to tackle internal barriers while maximizing learnings which can be reapplied to other programs and processes
  • Strong business acumen, willing to take risks while being consumer and customer focused
  • High learning agility and curiosity, able to connect apparently disparate data and the ability to lead teams through the non-obvious and ambiguity to a set of potential solutions.
