Storage Technician Apprentice - London, Open to flexibility

Within the Chief Information Office, Service Operations and Enterprise Infrastructure Team we ensure that the IT Production Service is available to our customers at point of need 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and ensure that we patch, maintain and operate our Data Centres, Tech Rooms and On Premise Technology stacks to ensure continuous availability and security of our customers data and services.

As a Storage Technician Apprentice you will contribute to the support and delivery of Products, Infrastructure, Applications and Services necessary to maintain and improve the Z/Storage and Unisys Storage infrastructure whilst ensuring that Infrastructure currency and risk mitigation are considered throughout the delivery and support processes.

Using your excellent communication skills you will provide technical support (including incident and problem resolution) for the Z/Storage and Unisys Storage environments across all data centres as well as maintenance and currency of the Storage infrastructure estate. In addition you will work with key stakeholders and need to be able to communicate technical issues and concepts in an appropriate manner.

As your knowledge and experience grows you will provide user help for Group Transformation business project areas, carry out Storage technical activities in support of project delivery, service improvement, ongoing support of the platform and identify and implement process improvements to improve resource and cost efficiency.

Whilst maintaining a quality and service focus during your training you will gain:

  • Technical knowledge of the fundamentals of the zOS environment and associated technologies , the related standards and policies used to govern these technologies and how they relate to the Z/Storage environment
  • High level technical awareness of the Unisys server environment and its interaction with the Unisys Storage environment
  • Knowledge of the Storage hardware infrastructure in use at LBG - scope, size and management of
  • Knowledge of the Z/Storage software products that maintain and provide backup/archiving facilities on the ZOS server environments
  • Knowledge of the technical and operational processes used within the Z/Storage and Unisys Storage environment to deploy, support and maintain technical infrastructure
  • Diagnostic skills and an ability to analyse the technical information relating to the Z/Storage and Unisys Storage environment from multiple sources, allowing the provision of highly effective solutions in complex environments

You will join a team of experienced Subject Matter Experts and training will be a mixture of 'on the job' training, self-study and traditional lecture based on our Apprentice training plan which will cover the Lloyds Banking Group induction, Z platform induction, Z Platform technical fundamentals and finally the Z and Unisys Storage specific training. So right from the start, we'll give you full training and all the support you need to achieve your competency. You don't need previous experience of finance or banking, however you must be keen to develop your career within IT.
