Financial Controller, part time - 4 days per week, remote
An edtech company is recruitng for a commercially focussed Financial Controller
As a key member of the finance team, reporting to the Head of Finance, you’ll assume a key role in ensuring financial management and reporting in the company.
It is 32 hours per week worked over either 4 or 5 days and we are happy to discuss flexible working patterns to suit.
The role is fully remote but we do require attendance at ad hoc meetings in London. Any travel costs will be covered.
The Role
You will work with the Head of Finance to ensure overall effective financial management and reporting as well as playing an active and important role in forecasting and strategic decision making across the business, providing financial analysis and guidance on plans and targets.
You’ll support the Head of Finance and the wider Management Team with information, analysis and recommendations. You’ll get the chance to influence the long-term shape of the finance team to support the growth of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production of monthly consolidated management accounts and Board packs
- Managing month end schedule - consolidation reporting and board pack
- Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported
- Ensure Balance sheet reconciliations are performed on a timely basis and investigation and resolution of discrepancies.
- Analysis of sales/costs/profits/cashflow
- Contribute to the development of budgets and financial plans for the company
- monthly budget / forecast reports, including liaison with relevant managers to resolve any queries.
- Oversight of foreign subsidiaries
- Working capital management and cash flow management
- Maintain and strengthen the control environment as well as suggesting updates and improvements to accounting systems and processes.
- Collaborate with auditing services to ensure proper compliance with all regulations
- Preparation of year-end audit file and liaising with auditors during year-end audit.
- Managing Corporation Tax & VAT Returns
- Ad hoc financial analysis
- Supervision of 1 junior staff member.
You
Essential:
- Studying towards an accounting qualification
- High levels of integrity and dependability, taking responsibility for commercial issues and seeing them through to completion
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage conflicting deadlines
- Proactive and positive ‘can do’ attitude
- Enjoy a changing environment and working cross-functionally
- Very strong IT skills (including development of models in Excel) and enthusiasm for transformational technology
Desirable:
- Experience in a software business
- Experience in Global Organisations as well as the “start-up” environment
- Knowledge of Xero

- £55,000 FTE (£45,000 actual)
