What is the purpose of this role?
As the Head of R&D Discovery & Development Services you will lead the creation, execution and management of the comprehensive global sourcing strategies for Discovery & Development Services categories within the responsibility scope of Global Procurement across business units. To demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the market actors, their capabilities and capacities.
The global strategy will take account of functional business needs and therapeutic area needs. The global strategy will be comprehensive with BUs requests, and will be consistent with regional or local needs.
You will lead, manage and develop teams of professional sourcing staff to facilitate the delivery of the primary role purpose described above (specific to roles with line management content)
- Direct reports, indirect reports, matrix reports
- Developing capability of staff, both technical and behavioural.
- Leading improvements in team performance
What are the key responsibilities of this role?
You will manage a spend of £392 m by creating comprehensive global sourcing strategies for Lab testing and safety, Product development (chemistry, biology, and for CH : Oral & Skin and Pain & Respiratory) and address collaboration and academia, operating with a truly global and strategic mindset
Build strategic relationships with a network of senior GSK global stakeholders, to understand business requirements, identify opportunities to create value and to position Procurement's value proposition. Align sourcing strategies accordingly.
Create compelling business cases for change and obtain approval to execute from GSK R&D and/or other support functions (Finance, HR) senior management, and to agree how benefit delivery will be budgeted
Deliver global benefits identified in strategies through effective strategy execution, aligned to assurance of supply (risk management), compliance, quality, service, cost and innovation.
Engage stakeholders, Finance and other relevant functions in the sourcing strategy delivery and execution.
Build strategic relationships with key suppliers at a senior level and lead processes to ensure value is driven from these relationships. Ensure BUs considerations are accounted for in supplier relationships. Leverage the Business Review Meeting process to drive the relationship.
Lead and direct category teams within scope of responsibility
Build the organisational capabilities necessary to implement GSK strategy, now and in the future.
Ensure appropriate communication strategy is in place and in use within the relevant Procurement and business customer networks.

What qualifications do I need to apply?
- You will have a university degree in Finance, Business or Science
What skills and experience do I need?
- You will have significant experience in procurement, especially on R&D categories, and be an established leader of direct and matrixed with proven negotiations and contract management skills.
- You will have excellent English proficiency (written and oral) with outstanding communication skills
- What other qualification would benefit this role?
- A Master's Degree Business Administration or Medical Sciences.
