What impact will you make? The Opportunity

Deloitte’s UK Tax Quality & Risk Management Team is looking for a lawyer to support Deloitte’s Tax practice on complex contracting and commercial negotiations. This will require the individual to regularly be involved in commercial contract negotiations, typically with external client legal teams and/or external lawyers instructed by our clients.

The Tax Quality & Risk Management Team works collaboratively with other quality, risk and contracting teams within the UK and across Deloitte’s global network. This will be a key part of the role and will require familiarity with contracting for services and a willingness to learn about Deloitte’s contracting philosophy (both established and emerging).
In terms of personal development, this role presents an ideal opportunity to obtain a wider appreciation of the breadth of a professional services practice, and the quality and risk factors critical to commercial success, whilst utilising and enhancing your legal skills. We will also provide you with coaching in a variety of risk related areas that relate to financial, business, consulting and commercial business acumen.

Role description

As a Commercial Lawyer, you will be exposed to a variety of services and negotiations with our major clients in the UK and globally, as well as assisting in updating our self-help guidance, templates and training. You will undertake a variety of contract negotiations simultaneously and consistently deliver high-quality, business-focused solutions in a challenging, dynamic and demanding marketplace.

This is an exciting opportunity to act as a business advisor and partner with the business, assessing and understanding how business risks can be managed in consultation with the relevant stakeholder. In addition to a strong background in contract you will demonstrate the ability to develop commercially appropriate solutions based on a mutual assessment of the risks and legal issues identified. 


The role is located in our London offices.

  • Regularly facing off to client legal teams, external lawyers and client stakeholders
  • Adopting a solution orientated and risk-based approach, supporting the team in driving this behaviour within the business
  • Providing support to the Tax business covering the entire sales cycle, from supporting the engagement teams with their initial interactions with clients, to tender & bid response development and finally contract negotiations
  • Assisting with the drafting of guidance notes and training materials on a variety of topics
  • Supporting the Tax Quality and Risk team in its advice to Deloitte’s management and practitioners on general legal and risk management issues, based on an understanding and appreciation of the key business risks that need to be managed


  • Degree educated or equivalent (Legal qualification preferred)
  • A self-starter, capable of swift review and analysis of the legal risk in lengthy contracts, drafting mitigation measures where possible
  • A desire to offer legal insight and support on the development of new service offerings
  • Proven and extensive experience of leading large and complex negotiations
  • Ability to provide a view, take responsibility and ownership of matters
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Demonstrable contract management experience
  • Demonstrable understanding and experience of company and commercial law, ideally professional services
  • Be able to be build strong business relationships with people at all levels across the firm
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills, with a good ability to prioritise
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work towards and meet conflicting and ever changing deadlines
  • The ability to work autonomously, whilst recognising the importance of being part of a team
