About the role

The Category Strategy team plays a leading role in delivering the Adult Drink Category vision through the 9 activation plays which will define how we go to market with our customers. This enables us to create a triple win for Diageo, Shoppers and customers through our category, brand, innovation and portfolio marketing plans. Category Strategy partner multiple teams to develop the one commercial plan and ensure the teams are fully equipped with comprehensive selling tools, from long term category vision into sub category strategy and brand, channel and customer specific growth drivers. The team partner with Diageo commercial teams and customers through joint business planning. We advise retailers to maximise their revenue, margin, operational efficiency and shopper satisfaction through advanced category management. It’s critical work to establish Diageo as the most trusted and respected supplier in GB, recognised for their collaborative win:win approach and outstanding understanding of category, customer and shopper behaviour.

You’ll be involved in:

  • Partnering with consumer marketing (in the context of long term trends in Adult Drinks & Sub-Category lifecycles) to develop a sub category strategy vision and strategy that can be shared externally with customers and will shift shopper and consumer behaviour and deliver Diageo’s financial goals
  • Translating strategy into long and short term channel activation plans to include pack, pricing, promotion (shopper marketing), merchandising/visibility persuasion plans working closely with Revenue Growth Planning, Innovation, Shopper Marketing and Consumer marketing to create the programmes
  • Establishing the Adult Drink strategy as the framework for explaining our category, brand, innovation and portfolio plans to customers in GB.
  • Partnering with Revenue Growth Planning, Shopper Marketing and Consumer Marketing to develop the one commercial plan by channel, ensuring the triple win agenda is fully integrated through a combination of Adult Drinks Category Strategy, NRM Sprints and Category Management insights
  • Enabling the development of 2 or 3 of the 9 activation plays within the Adult Drinks strategy ensuring we have a proven growth code and drivers to create the required shift in consumer behaviour that benefits the Diageo brands and creates a triple win and the necessary value
  • Creating the customer engagement and selling tools to inspire all our partners around our category vision, strategy and plans for all channels and different type of customer engagement
  • Creating innovative shopper insights programme, tools and processes to support advanced category development

What you’ll bring

  • 8+ years of commercial & marketing experience
  • Exceptional ability to build and maintain genuine relationships based on mutual trust & respect
  • Successful management of senior partners at all levels, resulting in strong and positive outcomes
  • Holistic abilities across all marketing pillars as well as a track record of leading transformational business results
  • Being able to excel when dealing with ambiguity, complexity and working within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and matrixed environment
