About us

London Higher is an ‘umbrella’ body representing over 40 publicly funded universities and higher education institutions in London. The organisation currently has four core divisions, each with its own stream of research and advocacy activities, along with several discrete projects. Our outputs are diverse and include research reports, promotional material, meetings and workshops, parliamentary lobbying, media management and receptions. We also run a wide range of advisory groups and networks.

London Medicine & Healthcare is one of the four divisions currently run by London Higher. It is comprised of two advisory groups spanning the medical and healthcare higher education sector.

London Medicine is the group bringing together the Heads of schools of medicine, dentistry and associated clinical academic disciplines in London, together with senior health education stakeholders. The Healthcare Education Group is a forum bringing together senior representatives from those higher education institutions (HEIs) in London that teach, train or conduct research in the healthcare professions. This includes nursing, midwifery and the allied health professions. Their remit is to monitor, research, promote and advocate education and training on behalf of this internationally respected cluster of HEIs and disciplines.

About the role

We are seeking a part-time Project Officer to lead on the day-to-day running and management of the Healthcare Education Group. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to develop their project and policy skills. We are looking for an experienced individual in higher education and/or health policy with the ability to lead on servicing committees, driving agendas and running small projects. For the right candidate, there may also be the opportunity to work on additional higher education policy areas within London Higher which are non-health related.

The post-holder will be able to choose whether they work 3, 3.5 or 4 days per week (between 21 and 28 hours), excluding lunch breaks. London Higher encourages flexible working and the days in which the hours are worked are negotiable. For example we are willing to consider a candidate who wishes to work different hours during school term times and holidays.

About you (requirements)

We are looking for an individual with sound knowledge and experience of higher education and/or health policy. Previous experience of project management and managing networks are also desirable.

If you feel your skills, knowledge and experience map to the following, we would love to hear from you:

  • Experience of working in higher education and/or health policy
  • Working with multiple stakeholders and managing networks
  • Proven ability to draft agendas, presentations and reports in a clear way that addresses key issues in a succinct manner
  • Experience of organising meetings and/or events
  • A flexible worker, with experience of working in a small team and a willingness to work collaboratively, but also able to work independently when necessary.
