Learning & Development Specialist, Part time 2.5 days/wk (12 month FTC)

Arup University was established in 2009, to raise the intellectual capital of the firm.  It brings together learning, knowledge management, communities of practice and research. Learning encompasses programmes at three levels: Doctoral, Masters and Professional, for Arup staff across in its 30 countries around the world.

We are now looking for a part-time Learning & Development Specialist to take up a fixed term role within our Technical Learning Programme.  This programme encompasses formal and informal learning across Arup, providing staff with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to carry out day-to-day work.  The focus of this role is on growing technical and multi-disciplinary training across all of our skills networks and regions. The team works with internal subject matter experts to diagnose, design, deliver and evaluate technical and specialist learning.

The Learning & Development Specialist will be required to manage the process, budget and stakeholders involved in diagnosing, designing, delivering and evaluating learning. There is also a requirement to support the wider learning team with the delivery of global programmes on an ad hoc basis.

The role:

The Learning & Development Specialist will be responsible for managing the development of Arup University Global Multi-Disciplinary Modules. This includes:

Diagnosing Learning Needs

  • Review, support and track the portfolio of technical offerings to ensure learning activities meet their ongoing needs
  • Connect learning activities taking place across the regions to ensure a joined up global approach
  • Support the development of learning paths into meaningful frameworks

Designing Learning

  • Undertake design activity with trainers/course designers both in person and remotely, advising on methodology and assisting with the quality of materials, writing of learning objectives and training plans
  • Work collaboratively with trainers to design online programmes using Moodle and Adobe Connect
  • Facilitate Arup University accreditation, including sign off of materials
  • Work with Regional colleagues to promote and facilitate the delivery (where applicable) of global programmes in the regions

Delivering Learning

  • Deliver Train the Trainer and other AU programmes designed to support course designers/trainers within their designated region
  • Deliver introductory courses to promote the use of virtual classrooms for global audiences

Evaluating Learning

  • Advise on the appropriate method of evaluation to demonstrate skill/knowledge transfer and return on investment
  • Engage in evaluation reviews with trainers and SNL’s as part of a wider review of technical learning strategy

Managing Internal Funding Mechanism

  • Advise internal stakeholders on the Arup University funding mechanism and contribute to quarterly funding reviews
  • Review spend of design and delivery spend for global courses to ensure they are running sustainably

About you:

You should have experience of the full cycle of learning design (diagnosis, design, delivery and evaluation) for both face to face and e- learning, as well as experience of programme delivery.  You will have proven project management capability, and be able to operate and lead a project through all its stages, from inception to post investment review.  Equally key to the role is being able to demonstrate exceptional stakeholder management skills, particularly around managing requirements, helping to clarify needs and priorities, and managing expectations. In order to be effective in these elements of the role applicants will require excellent communication skills both oral and written.
