Indirect Tax Manager, Open to flexibility

Group Tax is a global function, with specialists currently based in the UK, US, Netherlands, Ireland and Hungary - Our strategy is to optimise the Group’s tax position through appropriate tax planning and risk management, aligned with our commercial strategy and operating structures.

The purpose of this role is to assist in the proactive management of the global Indirect Tax agenda and to lead key operational/executional projects whilst identifying opportunities to improve and simplify ways of working.

Our Indirect Tax Manager will improve Diageo’s use of technology to enhance the efficiency of our compliance processes, but also to ensure that we can respond quickly and effectively to an increasing number of digital indirect tax filing requirements.

Top Accountabilities 

Manage the global indirect tax agenda, including:

  • Develop and implement a strategy to improve the use of technology to manage and improve indirect tax compliance requirements
  • Support the provision of technical indirect tax support and advice to Business Units, Global Functions and Diageo Business Services Centre
  • Support the Global Tax Governance team in establishing and managing a consistent framework for the governance of indirect taxes
  • Assist with the development of global indirect tax strategies and liaise with key stakeholders, including raising awareness of indirect tax accountabilities with Finance Directors
  • Identify process and policy improvements

Qualifications and experience                                         

  • Relevant indirect tax professional qualification and/or 5/6 years of experience preferably including a mix of a tax authority, in-house tax department or a Big 4 accountancy practice
  • Detailed practical experience of indirect tax procedures including governance, compliance and related accounting and documentation
  • Delivering indirect tax strategies and objectives for an indirect tax team
  • Proven advisory experience of dealing with indirect tax issues, in particular related to complex supply chains
  • Strong background of working with tax technology and knowledge of SAP or equivalent systems
  • Successful track record in managing negotiations with indirect tax authorities
  • Proven track record in management of projects and senior stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of interaction between indirect taxes and other taxes
  • Commercially astute
  • Create and sustains great working relationships
  • A self-starter comfortable operating independently
