Infrastructure Advisory Associate Director (Transport) (flexible working considered)

Job Description Summary:

Here you can be empowered to make a difference. Here you can widen your opportunities. The Senior Manager plays a pivotal role within the Business Risk Services department within Grant Thornton UK LLP. You'll take ownership of allocated assignments within the Private Sector, in a way that exceeds client expectations, drives the business forward, while taking responsibility for managing and developing team members.

Job Description:

Transport is a core sector within our Government Infrastructure Advisory offering. Today, transport infrastructure is seen as a stimulator of economic growth and regeneration, rather than being responsive to increasing demand. Governments around the world consider improved transport services as a means of increasing competitiveness within national, regional, urban and local economies.

Grant Thornton’s transport team provides more than generic financial advice; in order to meet these challenges and deliver optimal solutions we have assembled a dynamic team of financial advisers that have in-depth experience and expertise in the transport industry. As specialists in the transport sector, with direct experience of the specific industry issues needed to create successful projects, we understand the complex matrix of issues that can help or hinder the delivery of a project. Grant Thornton believes that an integrated team specialising in transport projects should combine an ability to think strategically with a deep practical understanding of transport economics and delivery. The team is based out of London Finsbury Square with clients all across the UK and overseas. We are seen as a market leader in this space, regularly competing and winning against the Big 4. We are involved in some of the most high profile capital projects in the UK and are often shaping the strategic direction of both the public and private sector clients. We are looking to expand our team of expert advisers with a focus on heavy and light rail, roads and highways, aviation and the bus market.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Take ownership of complex assignments in a way that meets and exceeds client expectations
  • Manage relationships with key clients and lead on the development of nominated key accounts
  • Manage budgets, assignments and client relationships
  • Take an active role in self-development, working with director or partner to produce and implement a personal development plan for technical and personal skills
  • Lead on the development of specific service lines, to grow the range of assignments in the transport sector
  • Engage with prospective clients to develop insights and identify opportunities, develop proposals and win new assignments
  • Lead and motivate teams, using regular, appropriate communication and providing timely feedback
  • Proactively take ownership of issues arising across the team, working with colleagues to manage these effectively
  • Manage recovery of fees, negotiate billing with clients, forecast billing for assignments, oversee the raising of invoices and monitor debtors
  • Identify and manage risk in line with the firm’s policies and procedures, leading by example to support a culture of strong risk-management within the team
  • Adhere to the firm’s quality management systems and provide strong leadership to maintain a culture of rigorous quality management in the team
  • Build networks throughout the firm and participate in marketing events to maintain knowledge of the firm’s wider services, identify where these may be valuable to clients and act as an ‘ambassador’ to offer these effectively and appropriately.

Who we're looking for:

  • You'll have a genuine interest in our public and private sector clients. We want to provide a distinctive service and unlock potential for growth in dynamic organisations
  • You'll know that what you do matters. As an organisation, we want to be known for how we do business, not simply what we do. Therefore, we need people who know that every act matters from the simple things to the insights we bring to clients
  • You’ll be able to communicate to board members of large companies in a coherent and articulate way, demonstrating the value added by the team
  • You'll seize opportunities. We want to adapt quickly and wisely to changing conditions to optimise growth for both our clients and ourselves
  • You'll apply critical reasoning to bring clarity and insight. We do it by asking insightful questions, listening and drawing on our collective knowledge and experience to really help others grow
  • You will have a focus on quality and excellence with strong analytical and report writing skills.

Education, experience and qualifications:

  • Proven experience of operating at a senior level in an advisory business or internal consultancy within industry in the transport sector
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience of managing multiple teams and complex work-streams
  • Knowledge and experience of the UK rail industry, roads, aviation or highways; understanding of PPP in the transport sector overseas is desirable
  • A commercial mind with an ability to understand contractual requirements
  • Good understanding of financial statements with an analytical and numerical approach to problem solving
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a commitment to producing clear, structured reports
  • Degree-level education and professional qualifications desirable.
  • The time you spend outside of work helps shape what you can bring to our firm. We value the commitments you may have outside of work and will consider all flexible working applications.

Valuing you

Your personal development plan will help you grow your skills. And you’ll be able to progress your career within your team or by moving across our business or going on secondments in the UK and beyond. You’ll also enjoy a competitive salary and a flexible benefits package designed to meet your individual needs.

Becoming a shared enterprise

Our unique culture is built around collaboration. Everybody here plays their part. We share ideas. We share responsibility. We share the rewards. Put simply, we’re better together.
