Under the banner of ‘Skills for Londoners’ the skills agenda is at the heart of the Mayor of London’s vision for London, ensuring both Londoners and London’s businesses have the skills they need to succeed in a fair, inclusive society and thriving economy. The role of Senior Manager – Strategy, Policy & Relationships is central to ensuring the Mayor’s vision is met.

The successful candidate will work as part of a wider skills and employment unit, providing leadership to the policy, strategy and relationships team.  The postholder will provide strategic direction and expert guidance on achieving the Mayor’s manifesto commitments on skills and employment and oversee implementation of the Skills for Londoners strategy.  This includes policy development relating to post-16 skills and education such as apprenticeships, adult education budget, careers services and higher education. The postholder will manage strategic relationships with key stakeholders including the AoC and AELP, business membership bodies  as well as local, regional and Central Government.

The postholder will manage a team of up to eighteen officers to achieve these goals. 

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a track record of leadership and management, working in a politically complex organisation as well as strong relationship management at all levels.

This is a 10 month fixed term or secondment opportunity starting on 1 July 2019.
