Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic borough. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; 1st class transport connections; excellent public services; & thriving arts, cultural & retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity & commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.

Hackney Council's Finance & Corporate Resources Directorate is responsible for the sound financial management of the Council through a number of divisions. One of these is the Revenues Service which is responsible for the administration & collection of Council Tax and Business Rates. We are looking to recruit a Revenues Inspection Officer to join the team. For this role it would be highly desirable if you have a working knowledge of Council Tax and Business Rates Legislation, as well as experience dealing with the Planning Application Decision & Building Control List. However, we welcome applications from candidates who can show they have transferable skill sets.

The Revenues Inspection Officers are responsible for conducting reviews across the London Borough of Hackney. The primary function of a Revenues Inspection Officer is to ensure all commercial and domestic assessments within Hackney are shown the Valuation Office Agency ratings list. Regular property reviews are required either from the office or via an onsite inspection to ensure any changes at a property (deletions, new builds, mergers, splits, discounts/exemption and liability issues), are reported to the relevant departments and or external bodies/agencies.

For this roles it is essential that you have the ability to co-ordinate, plan, prioritise your own workloads & meet set targets, as is the ability to work independently and within teams in a pressurised work environment which is subject to frequently changing circumstances in order to meet deadlines. You will be adept at building and maintaining excellent working relationships with internal & external stakeholders.  Due to the size of the Hackney borough you will need to be happy to work independently, when out on the borough.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation. If you share our values and are ready to be part of our exciting journey please click 'Apply'.

Please refer to the Job Description and Personal Specification.

It is essential that you attach a supporting statement, addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience would enable you to meet all aspects of the post, as indicated in the person specification. Please limit this to 4 pages of A4.

We are passionate about equal opportunities and welcome a broad diversity of talent to apply.
