Recycling Assistant, Open to flexible working
We know that staff are key to our success and we are seeking people with ambition, creativity and commitment to our values to help us achieve the best for the people of Hackney.
Our Public Realm Division ensures that the London Borough of Hackney is clean, safe and accessible for all our residents, businesses and visitors. Our Strategy, Environmental Enforcement and Recycling team is responsible for our council waste strategy including recycling and local environmental quality to ensure we protect the local environment. This is a really exciting time to join our team, during a busy period, as we work towards our regional target of 50% recycling by 2030 and eliminating all avoidable waste of all kinds by 2050.
We are looking for a Recycling Assistant to support the Recycling Officer and wider team to implement the Council’s Waste and Recycling Strategy and support the development and delivery of key recycling and waste prevention initiatives. The role will provide the individual the opportunity to use their initiative to develop project ideas and solutions to increase recycling. The Recycling Assistant will be a key point of contact for our resident’s queries and will be required to investigate and resolve enquiries, and attend awareness raising events to engage with our local residents. The Recycling Assistant will also help monitor the operations of the recycling service, through site assessments and visits, to review the service and resolve issues that arise. The post will support the delivery of various projects and campaigns, and sometimes lead on smaller ones, to promote recycling and waste reduction.
Your experience, knowledge and commitment to waste and recycling are what we are looking for to join our busy team. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about the environment and holds a strong desire to work within the waste and recycling sector. Your administration experience and communication skills coupled with your dedication to customer service will enable you to offer best solutions to our residents. The successful candidate will be required to carry out some on site work monitoring the recycling services, involving some spells of independent working. An ability and willingness to work flexible hours, which may require some early mornings, weekends and evenings.

Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.
