Housing is a top priority for Hackney. Ensuring that we deliver a high quality, customer focused repairs service across our 30,000 homes is paramount. We have recently remodelled our repairs service to match our aspirations and are now looking for senior managers who can take us on the next stage of our improvement journey.

The service innovations we are putting in place will encourage joined up working. We need people who can build effective working relationships across the Council, keen to create partnerships with other service areas and agencies, working collaboratively to improve efficiency and performance.

We are looking for experienced surveyors to help us resolve disrepair and complex complaints cases. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a socially rewarding role. You will be making a real difference to our residents’ lives and support our work to make Hackney a place for everyone.

As Surveyor (Disrepair), you will prepare reports and specifications, managing external contractors. You should be passionate about resident engagement as you will be their key point of contact. You will also need an in-depth technical knowledge as you will be working alongside legal teams to ensure cases are resolved. This will involve attending court, providing specialist advice and playing a lead role in case settlement.

To excel in this role, you will have expert knowledge of the housing disrepair protocol as well as specialist skills including building surveying, contract management and budgetary control. You will need the gravitas to influence a wide range of stakeholders and the sensitivity to understand our residents’ concerns. Your focus should always be on customer care, with a determination to get the best outcomes for our residents. You will need a degree level qualification in building construction and membership of either RICS or CIOB.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work.  We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best.  We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

Closing Date: 28th April 2019, (22:59pm)

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
