The Mobility Manager is responsible for managing the global mobility policy and process development, vendor services and performance, compliance, governance, and recordkeeping for Grant Thornton International Ltd (GTIL) across all areas of mobility, including international assignments and transfers. This position interacts and partners with global, national, regional and local HR business partners, employees and partners of the firm, and the firm’s external international relocation vendors.

The Mobility Manager will report to the GTIL Global Mobility Director and will work directly with GTIL team members and colleagues from other Grant Thornton member firms to develop and deliver all services including assignment planning, facilitation, and project-based support, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability and initiative. This role will also participate in the Mobility Centre of Excellence, representing the Grant Thornton International Ltd mobility program, recommending and implementing strategies to support, improve and/or modify existing processes, in alignment with Grant Thornton’s long-term business strategy and talent needs.

The Global Mobility Manager will report to the GTIL Global Mobility Director and will work directly with GTIL team members and colleagues from other Grant Thornton member firms to develop and deliver all services including assignment planning, facilitation, and project-based support, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability and initiative.  This role will also participate in the Mobility Centre of Excellence, representing the Grant Thornton International Ltd mobility program, recommending and implementing strategies to support, improve and/or modify existing processes, in alignment with Grant Thornton’s long-term business strategy and talent needs.

Mobility Management:

  • Assess and ensure global readiness of mobility offerings; lead planning, preparations, and execution of international assignments and transfers, leveraging standardized policies, processes and procedures and other firm resources
  • Manage global mobility policies and program guidelines to ensure industry competitiveness and compliance with legal, tax, and local employment regulations; coordinate with subject matter experts (Tax, Immigration, Legal, etc.) to ensure compliant and timely support is given to mobile employees and partners
  • Create the proper infrastructure around management controls and reporting, including metrics, quality assurance, Return on Investment (ROI) analysis, and capacity planning
  • Monitor overall mobility activity, status and support throughout the assignment or relocation lifecycle
  • Prepare and advise around immigration, compensation, cost management strategies, cost projections, balance sheets, HR policy issues and assignment services
  • Facilitate and/or coordinate mobility processes such as cost estimates, letters of understanding, assignment letters, repayment agreements, mobilization, repatriation planning, mobility compensation reporting/tracking, tax equalization, and mobility payment distribution
  • Provide international assignees and transferees with services to coordinate immigration, benefits, housing, allowances, compensation packages, and tax services, where appropriate; identify other support needed for a diverse mobile workforce
  • Manage escalation of issues and exceptions in accordance with approval processes and protocols
  • Nurture strategic partnership with external vendors and assess performance, with strong focus on employee experience; coordinate the application of mobility policies and monitor that overall mobility SLA (Service Level Agreement) standards are met and contract terms and conditions are being adhered to
  • Serve as point of contact for third-party vendors, including global RMC (Relocation Management Company) partner; conduct regular client review meetings at GTIL and member firm levels
  • Communicate and educate key stakeholders and business partners on changing developments and advise proactively on policy and procedure change
  • Coordinate assignment experience surveys, analyzing feedback and summarizing results
  • Prepare and maintain program activity tracking and reporting including metrics and trends
  • Analyze program costs, manage cost estimate process and advise efficiencies and improvements based on industry best practice
  • Assist Global Mobility leader in creation and management of budgeting and forecasting
  • In collaboration with business leaders, evaluate mobility needs for current year and long-term planning
  • Lead the development and production of mobility initiatives, including content of Global Mobility internal websites, Grant Thornton Mobility Community network, education sessions, vendor implementations, etc.
  • Stay in front of the market trends, business challenges, and priorities by leveraging strong networks, benchmarking and research; drive program policy and protocol changes, as needed

Business Partnership:

  • Act as advisor and consultative thought partner to local and global service line leaders, finance, and HR business partners on global mobility policies and processes
  • Identify opportunities to build organizational capability and leverage best practices for continuous improvements
  • Collaborate with HR business partners and service line leaders on the alignment of global mobility with career development and succession planning opportunities to support the objectives of the business 
  • In collaboration with Global Mobility Director, participate in Mobility Center of Excellence, representing GTIL mobility programs and best practices to support long-term global business strategy and talent needs
