Fixed Term / Secondment Contract for 1 Year - Full time

Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic borough. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.

Hackney Council’s Employment Pathways service lead the Council’s work to create and oversee high-quality employment-related opportunities for 16-24 year olds in Hackney, be that apprenticeships, traineeships, work placements, or other opportunities, both with the Council as an employer, and with businesses in the borough.

Hackney has experienced rapid economic growth over recent years, particularly in the construction, tech, creative, and digital sectors, and we want to make sure young Hackney residents can access the opportunities this creates. The focus of this post is on creating opportunities which give young people a meaningful insight into different sectors, allowing them to make more informed decisions about their future careers.

There are two key areas of focus for this post:

  1. the delivery of the Hackney 100 programme - creating and managing 100 paid work placements. Alongside Hackney 100, the post holder will be working with partners to shape other work experience and career insight opportunities for young people to engage with employers.
  2. establishing new traineeship pre-employment programmes for disadvantaged 16-24 year olds who are not ready to start jobs or apprenticeships, and for older Hackney residents

You should have experience of establishing and managing employment-related programmes, and experience of engaging employers to create employment-related opportunities. You should have proven project management skills, and be an ambitious, creative worker who can develop new ideas. You should have excellent networking and communication skills with an ability to develop strong, collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation. If you share our values and are ready to be part of our exciting journey please apply now!

Please refer to the Job Description and Personal Specification for more information.

It is essential that you attach a supporting statement, addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience would enable you to meet all aspects of the post, as indicated in the job description and person specification.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working.

We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work.  We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best.  We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.
