The Role

Exciting opportunity to join the long standing and established Fostering Team in Camden.

Children Safeguarding and Social Work (CSSW) are currently seeking an experienced and highly dedicated Senior Practitioner to join our Fostering Team. The team is part of an integrated service comprising of a Looked After Children’s and Leaving Care team, a virtual Looked After Children Academy, a specialist health team, targeted CAMHS provision and Adoption and Permanence team.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with professionals of every discipline, you will be supporting a small team of supervising social workers who manage and maintain foster placements, support and develop their allocated foster carers, and we guarantee different challenges every day.

In this role, you will ensure that services offered by the team meets the needs of LAC children ensuring that foster carers are well supported, and that the team is meeting targets. The role will also involve oversight of the training service offered to foster carers through Camden and the North London Fostering Consortium, organising and creating the yearly brochure, supporting yearly consultation day with foster carers ad supporting fostering professional development. The role includes supporting three supervising social workers in the Fostering service. The role demands close collaboration and good working relationships across the integrated service and Child In Need teams to deliver an integrated approach to child care planning.

About You

You will currently be a permanent member of staff in APT, Fostering or Resources.

The successful candidate will have a diploma in social work or equivalent qualification. You will hold a valid HCPC registration. Command good working knowledge of the legislative framework relating to children, particularly the Children Act 1989, Fostering Regulations and Care Standards and all legislation related to Looked After Children and Care Leavers combined with experience post qualification of working in a Children and Families Division.

You will have a good understanding of the pressures faced by foster carers whom accommodate LAC children and the inherited issues for LAC children. You will understand the complex and challenging aspects of fostering assessments and the challenges around private fostering. You will need to be a strong team player and have a proven track record of supervision and managing professional staff, an ability to evidence the assessment and motivation of staff, identifying support and training needs. 

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.
