Manager/Assistant Manager, Contentious Matters - FTC, Open to returners & flexible working
Auditor needed to work within team responding to regulatory investigations and actions, claims and other contentious situations against or involving the firm and our partners.
The contentious matters team is looking for an Assistant Manager or Manager (M1/M2) qualified accountant, with recent audit experience, to join its team, on a secondment or fixed term contract basis.
The contentious matters team sits within National Quality and Risk Management and deals with all regulatory investigations and actions, claims and other contentious matters against or involving the firm. Whilst the team handles all such matters across the firm and service lines, this role will focus on audit-related matters. This is an interesting role providing a unique insight into the firm, excellent experience in dealing with often high profile cases and risk issues faced by the firm.

Regulatory investigations and actions, claims and other contentious matters, the role will involve all aspects of handling a contentious matter related to audit such as:
- Liaising with, supporting and updating our internal stakeholders, including engagement teams, internal review teams, Audit QRM, and firm and risk leadership;
- Liaising with our external advisors, including solicitors, counsel and experts, as well as relevant witnesses;
- Communicating with regulators (including responding to their enquiries) and other external bodies (for example, claimants’ lawyers);
- Collating and identifying relevant case documentation;
- Attending interviews and hearings;
- Reviews of historic audit files and associated emails/other documents to identify and assess quality of work and potential exposures;
- Helping in the preparation of submissions and defences; and
- Assessment of evidence and evaluation of the firm’s position.

Your professional experience
- Qualified Accountant with audit background, including recent audit experience;
- Strong writing skills;
- Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to make recommendations based on analysis;
- Strong interpersonal skills, including oral/written communication and influencing skills;
- Highly motivated, with a proven ability to work on own initiative within a challenging work environment;
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent high level of quality;
- Desire to keep up to date with developments in audit standards and regulatory change affecting the audit profession;
- Strong team player with good organisation, planning and project management skills.

You will be joining a team of circa 10 professionals (a mixture of lawyers and accountants), reporting to the partner in charge of contentious matters. The team enjoys a high profile within the firm, with continuous access to leadership.
