Research Project Manager, 4-5 days per week and open to flexible working
An opportunity has arisen to work with the senior management of Britain’s longest established independent economic and social research institute. Based in the heart of Westminster, NIESR sits at the centre of an exceptional network of government, corporate and third sector policy makers, specialising in high quality academic research which addresses real life issues. The successful candidate will provide support across our portfolio of research projects, from helping with the identification of funding opportunities and submission of bids, through to checking contractual terms and ensuring that NIESR meets its obligations to funding bodies. The post will report to the Head of Finance and work closely with our researchers and communications team, representing NIESR to a range of external partners and funders.
- Support research staff in the collation of high level funding proposals and tenders
- Manage the administration of a portfolio of current projects, monitoring budgeting, costing and invoicing processes and controls for applications and awards and advising senior management of potential issues in a timely manner
- Managing all aspects of ISO compliance for projects including contract administration and tools to support compliance
- Manage the collection of information regarding staff contribution to projects, including timesheets, and quickly identify any potential divergence to contract terms
- Work with the Head of Finance and senior management to develop, existing systems and process and design and implement key controls and reporting for each stage of the process.
Reflecting the small and interactive nature of the organisation, our administrative team are sometimes required to undertake a wide range of tasks on a flexible basis, providing an excellent opportunity to experience all aspects of the business.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Demonstrable experience of process improvement including development, implementation and reporting on key controls.
Strong administrative track record in project or programme management.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft office suite, excel, word etc.
Experience of Access and Sharepoint online
Knowledge or experience of biding, costing or funding processes
Knowledge or experience of research agreements and contractual terms, possibly but not necessarily in the academic research sector
Experience of implementing or designing ISO systems, particularly in small or medium sized organisations
The post is a permanent position with a starting salary between £35,000-40,000 pro rata, depending on experience, NIESR also offers 30 days annual leave and contributes to a private pension scheme. We are a small and friendly organisation and, for the right candidate, are open to conversations about flexible working options including part-time, flexible hours and working from home.
