Commercial Banking Legal has an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join the Banking Products Legal team to support the Payables & Receivables and Treasury Services (Liquidity) businesses. The business areas provide cash management solutions, including accounts/deposits, liquidity services (pooling and sweeping), cash collection and delivery services and other payments and receivables solutions to small business and large corporate customers, financial institutions and local authorities.

 

The team provide legal support for product development and innovation; legal and regulatory change projects; rectifications and remediations; industry change initiatives; customer on-boarding and customer journeys and the management of legal risk relating to relevant products and services including the on-line/digital channels through which these are provided to clients.

You'll operate as a specialist legal adviser in relation to cash management and payments matters including providing legal input to support delivery of projects, innovation and product developments (including maintenance and withdrawal) and rectification. Additionally, you'll be advising on drafting terms and conditions for new services including advising on relevant legal and regulatory requirements such as Payment Services Regulations

 

Your additional accountabilities will include;

 

  • Advising on delivery of services via digital channels;
  • Negotiating with customers in relation to bespoke arrangements;
  • Assisting with the development of policy and procedures;
  • Providing advice and mentorship to business areas on Legal Risk Management using the relevant risk management policy framework;
  • Supporting change projects in the business, the Banking Products Legal team and the Legal & Secretariat community to deliver continuous improvement;
  • Advising on customer journeys and customer treatment strategies;
  • Acting as part of a collaborative team of specialist lawyers and collaborating effectively with other areas of Legal;
  • Selection, instruction and management of panel law firms and development/maintenance of strong relationships with external lawyers;
  • Building and maintaining strong partner network to ensure there is a good understanding of business strategy and pipeline;
  • Providing insightful, commercial, practical advice, tailored to a broad range of partners;
  • Supporting legal, regulatory and change projects across Commercial Banking Legal (recent examples have included EU Exit and IBOR);
  • Reporting and escalating legal and governance risks and inputting to recommended solutions as required;
  • Supporting provision of training to team and business partners.

 

So what about you?

You'll be a qualified lawyer in the UK (or qualifying jurisdiction) with experience working in an in-house environment. You'll have demonstrable experience advising on Payment Services Regulations; customer terms and conditions; commercial contracts; digital channels and knowledge of the legal, regulatory and industry framework applicable to payments and deposits (eg Open Banking, SEPA, Confirmation of Payee, Funds Transfer Regulations; FSCS deposit guarantee scheme) would be an advantage.

***This role can be based flexibly in London, Bristol or Edinburgh. The broad base salary banding across the UK is from £72,756a to £95,500pa. Salaries in the London area will be reflected towards the upper end of this bracket***
