Job Description Summary

As part of the Returners Programme the Group Finance Support (GFS) Division are looking for an enthusiastic, curious and hardworking candidates to join our team. We provide centralised support and expertise to the rest of Finance and the Business.

As is most of the world, the entire team is currently working remotely and this is something we intend to carry on embracing into the future. The hub location of this role is Edinburgh, but we expect this role to work in a hybrid way, flexing between working from home and the office hub.

We recognise that in order to attract the best people we need to be flexible - we know that 'normal' office hours aren't always doable! Whilst we can't accommodate every flexible working request, we're happy to be asked.

What's involved?

Leading a small team looking after specific control and reporting activities, the role will involve:

  • Running the month end process, including preparation and posting of any manual journals, the monthly balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation process, and the assurance and attestation of the data at month end;
  • Taking ownership of control issues or balance sheet breaks, ensuring that remediating action plans are in place;
  • Proactively identifying improvements to existing processes, systems and procedures, including the running of debrief meetings and driving continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Coordinating preparation of reporting and analysis by using multiple computer applications, including Microsoft Office, while also gathering and summarising data in response to customer requests.

We'd love to see a number of the below aspects in your background:

  • You're a qualified accountant, with experience of either financial control, statutory or regulatory reporting;
  • You'll have experience of leading and coaching colleagues, both as a line manager and performance manager;
  • You're a confident user of Microsoft Office software applications, and have a practical understanding of financial systems and processes.
