Here at Lloyds Banking Group, we're looking for a hardworking and proactive Senior Lawyer to join our Commercial Banking (CB) Litigation team. The team is part of the wider Litigation & Contentious Regulatory Community. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to work in a supportive in-house litigation team. The team supports the Commercial Banking businesses within the Group and provides high quality litigation advice. The role is an opportunity for an internal secondment or externally on a fixed term basis of 12 months.

You'll join the Commercial Banking Litigation team as a Senior Lawyer. The role involves leading and supervising colleagues managing a caseload of complex, interesting and high value litigation matters. You'll provide pro-active, pragmatic and commercially aware advice on contentious matters to business colleagues.

You'll work collaboratively as part of a supportive team. This will involve working with others, including the Head of Commercial Banking Litigation, as well as with colleagues from the wider Legal & Secretariat Community.

Key responsibilities:

  • You'll deliver litigation support for Commercial Banking.
  • You'll be responsible for supervising colleagues and supporting them with all aspects of their caseloads, including strategic case management, briefing and influencing key senior stakeholders and managing external panel law firms.
  • You'll support business areas in identifying and resolving legal risks.
  • You'll act as senior legal representative in business/divisional projects, supporting other team members and non-contentious legal colleagues.
  • You'll identify and develop protocols to improve the efficiency of litigation management.
  • You'll line manage more junior team members.


We need someone legally qualified in England & Wales, Scotland, or with an equivalent legal qualification, and with a current legal practising certificate. We want someone with an excellent understanding of dispute resolution, with previous experience as a litigator in a law firm and / or in-house, ideally in the banking and financial services sector. You'll need to be able to demonstrate proven leadership capability in line managing more junior colleagues.

You'll also need a sound understanding of the legal, technical, and procedural factors affecting contentious matters. Other key capabilities include:

  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas, risks and strategies - both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to build trusting and collaborative relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills and good attention to detail.
